About Jephte Lanthia

Jephte approaches law with clarity and calm, helping clients navigate corporate and securities matters, regulatory compliance, and fintech/blockchain transactions without the usual overwhelm. As a trusted advisor, he works closely with hedge fund and private equity managers, startups, and investment advisers of all sizes, meeting each client at their current business stage. 

Whether structuring investment vehicles, managing securities offerings, or tackling broker-dealer rules, Jephte brings a steady hand and deep understanding of complex regulations like the Securities Act of 1933, Securities Exchange Act of 1934, Investment Advisers Act of 1940, Investment Company Act of 1940, and FINRA rules. Before co-founding Basswood, he served as Special Counsel at the SEC’s Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation, advising on rules that impact small businesses, venture capital funds, and emerging managers. This experience gives him a unique policy perspective that he brings to practical client challenges every day. 

Outside work, Jephte loves spending time with his wife and trying to keep up with their energetic son. The Lanthias are passionate about mentoring and community, and, whenever he can, reconnects with his first love: jazz. (Yes, he’s a former professional musician.)
